“Lead-free faucet” is actually a sales gimmick for merchants

Home furnishings contain formaldehyde and faucets contain lead. The home furnishing industry, which has always been of low concern, has frequently become the focus of quality problems in recent years. Since some products were found to be unqualified in some random inspections, many of them were big brands, which caused social concern and industry rectification. After the most stringent national standards for faucets in history, has the product quality improved? Are consumers willing to pay for the high standards?

Change 1: The mandatory national standard for faucets is quickly introduced

After the incident of excessive lead in faucets was exposed, functional departments quickly strengthened the quality supervision of faucets. From the second half of 2013 to the end of 2014, the quality inspection industry and commerce departments of more than 120 cities across the country, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Hangzhou, included faucets in the annual production and distribution areas. In January 2016, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine will Ceramic sheet sealing faucet was included in the 2016 national quality supervision key spot check catalog.

At the same time, the country’s mandatory national standard for excessive lead in faucets is also quickly introduced. On December 1, 2014, the “most strict in history” faucet standard-GB18145-2014 “Ceramic Seal Faucet Standard” was officially implemented, and the “Ceramic Seal Faucet Metal Pollutants Precipitation Limit Certification” was implemented at the same time, clearly It is stipulated that the lead precipitation limit of faucets shall not exceed 5 micrograms/liter, which is equivalent to the 3C certification of faucet products.

On January 14, 2016, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine conducted a national supervision and random inspection of 367 batches of ceramic sheet sealing faucets produced by 359 companies. After inspection, the sampling qualification rate was 81.5%. In the three main production areas of Taizhou and Nan’an, Fujian, the pass rate has increased significantly compared with 2013.

Change 2: Production companies strictly control quality at all costs

Government functional departments have become increasingly strict in controlling the quality of faucets. What changes have been made by faucet manufacturers in the procurement of faucet raw materials and production processes in the past three years? Has the production ratio of alternative stainless steel faucets increased?

A branded sanitary ware distributor told reporters, “After the implementation of the new national standard, we all use high-purity copper, and now the factory cost of each faucet has increased by 30-50 yuan.”

The person in charge of the Guangzhou factory of Moen Sanitary Ware also told reporters, “After the implementation of the national standard, we have further strengthened the standardization of the lead washing treatment of copper raw materials to ensure that each manufactured product meets the national standards for lead precipitation.”

According to Lin Shan, vice president of Jiu Mu Kitchen and Bathroom Co., Ltd., the price of copper materials with lead content less than 0.25% is about 3,000 yuan higher than ordinary copper per ton. Copper materials with more lead content are easier to cut and process. To achieve lower lead standards, processing equipment and processing procedures have been extensively adjusted.”

Yin Hong, deputy secretary-general of the China Building and Sanitary Ceramics Association, pointed out that although stainless steel faucets and plastic faucets are loudly heard, copper faucets have the function of killing bacteria within 30 minutes, which other materials do not have. Yin Hong predicts that in the next ten years, brass will still be the mainstream material for making faucets.

Change 3: Terminal publicity pays more attention to product functions

In the field of terminal sales, what changes did the major faucet brands have in their product promotion and before the incident? The reporter recently visited and found that the faucet products of Moen, Wrigley, Huida, Kohler and other specialty stores basically have no more concepts. Pay attention to the publicity of shape design and water outlet function.

Regarding the concept of lead-free copper that has been rampant in the past two years, the reporter learned that only a few companies are currently experimenting.

When facing customers, Ms. Deng, the shopping guide of Dongpeng Sanitary Ware, would recommend this: “It is not troublesome to replace the faucet. Our shop will have a master to install it for free when the consumption reaches a certain amount. The middle and low-end faucets can usually be installed by themselves. Or ask a master in the community, and it can be done for tens of dollars and half an hour.”

Change 4: Consumers pay attention to product prices

Since the faucet lead-excess incident and the implementation of the new national standard, how has consumers’ mindset about buying faucets changed? A survey on a website shows that when consumers buy faucets, nearly 40% of consumers focus on price.

The reporter interviewed Miss Kang who was shopping for sanitary products at the Jockey Club Home and Building Materials Museum. She told the reporter that her bathroom basin faucet and kitchen sink faucet were all equipped by the developer. After nearly ten years, the water output became less so. Smooth, replaced two Kohler faucets last year, which cost more than 2,000 yuan. “The effluent is much softer, but it’s unclear whether the lead content is less than before. Buy a sense of security.”

Citizen Mr. Su said, “I feel that the lead problem is not that serious. It should seep into the water pipe and run away immediately. Put the water for a few minutes in the morning and use it again. It is too much trouble to change the tap to get the water everywhere.”
